Love Preparations

My boyfriend and I don't celebrate Valentines day really, but I do love the concept. Imagine having a secret admirer and getting a love note from them? Not a text or email, or e-card, an actual note. I couldn't imagine anything more heart warming on Valentines day.

This book was recently featured in Glamour magazine, and looks fantastic. I don't really read magazines either, but this one was kicking about our living room, so I took a peek. If anyone was looking for inspiration for a love note, or just (like me) melts at the idea of someone sending a note to another nameless someone.. then this is perfect. Although the best notes always come from the heart, this might give people an idea of where to start if writing is not their thing. Also maybe a great gift?

Synopsis

Have you ever called someone 'fluffle bunny'? Have you ever sent a text saying 'it's not you, it's me'? Have you ever written a dirty limerick in a Valentine's card? In short - have you ever been in love? If the answer is yes (come on, admit it!), then this book is for you. Bestselling author and award-winning designer Oonagh O'Hagan has brought together a hilarious collection of genuine love notes. From the affectionate to the poignant to the downright filthy, they are endlessly fascinating and hugely entertaining.

They aren't all sweet and romantic, I believe one of them runs along the lines of "I want you to be my Fuck Weasel". Seriously... how brilliant?

I remember looking through some of the books at my parents' house, and picking up a book of my mum's. Inside was a love note from my dad, I cannot remember exactly what it said, but it made me smile so much, i showed it to my mum later and she then told me that until they moved home and they both got swamped with work he would write her a love note every morning. Just to remind her how lucky he felt to have her.
If I end up half as happy as my parents I will be so thankful. It is never completely peachy... everyone knows that, and they have had so much thrown at them (including me, I was a horrible teenager) but they work through it together. Absolute inspiration to me those two!
However when I am annoyed about relationships I blame them for a false sense of security... but hey, highs and lows.

I don't think you need to have someone to have an amazing day, just appreciate someone who you love, whether it be friends, family or lovers... it is all love at the end of the day.

My first ever Valentines gift was when I was about nine or ten, from a boy who was my best friend. He got me a box of chocolates that was hard crystal plastic with a dog on top. I loved it and kept it for ages... until we moved house I think. It just said from "secret admirer" and it was perfect.

This year I shall be driving to my grandparents.
